• Registration and Trade Show Expo open at 8 a.m.  Trade Show Expo ends at 11:30.  Last two educational seminars end at 1 p.m.
• Educational Programs (flat fee to attend any of the four programs)

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS: The Expo, featuring area businesses is open to the general public from 8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at no charge. There is a fee if you are attending the ACTHA educational programs listed below. There are two tracks of educational programming. Attendees are able to select from one of the two choices for the following time periods:

8:30 – 9:30 a.m. (select from one of the two choices below):

Insurance Liability:  Discovering your potential liability is key to controlling it. This session will discuss what to look for to minimize risk, vendor liability, association vs. owner responsibility and liability when the association is sued or the association sues.  Presenters:  Kara Cermak of Rowell and Ken Sampson of Dasco Insurance Agency

Legislative and Legal Update- This session will discuss recent changes to the Illinois Condominium Property Act, the Common Interest Community Association Act, and other new laws including the impact of the new concealed carry law, the Spanish Court II decision, the Ombudsman concept and more.  Presenters: State Rep. Elaine Nekritz, Mike Kim of Michael C. Kim Associates, John Carr, ACTHA’s lobbyist
11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (select from one of three choices below):

Collections:  This session will discuss fiduciary duty, procedures, methods, timeline, follow-up, compliance, eviction, right of first refusal and the association vs. mortgagees, including recent finding and new case law.  Presenters: Keith Hales of Hales Property Management and David Hartwell of Penland and Hartwell

Elections:  The most mystifying and misunderstood of association procedures and the one ACTHA gets the most questions about is elections. This session will discuss legal requirements, notice, candidates, eligibility, ballots and  proxies, secret ballots and electronic balloting, cumulative vs. non-cumulative voting, ballot counting and possible election challenges that all associations should be mindful of.   Presenters: Kerry Bartell of Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit, Nancy D’Andrea of Premier Community Management and Sarah Gullette-Johnson of SGJ Property Management
